Join the Movement to Restore and Protect St. Maarten’s Coral Reefs
At BioRocks SXM, we’re dedicated to restoring St. Maarten’s marine ecosystems, particularly its coral reefs, through innovative and sustainable approaches. Our Biorock™ technology is leading the way in restoring damaged coral reefs, helping to protect marine life, support local fisheries, and preserve our stunning underwater landscapes for future generations.
We can’t do it alone. We need committed partners who share our vision of a thriving ocean and a vibrant island community. By becoming a sponsor, you’ll be directly contributing to the preservation of one of the Caribbean's most precious ecosystems while aligning your brand with cutting-edge environmental innovation and positive social impact.
Project BiorockS blends creativity with conservation.
Founded by artist and marine enthusiast Ron Duikersloot, BioRocks takes the innovative BioRock technique and gives it an artistic twist.
Instead of just using plain metal structures, Ron creates beautiful underwater sculptures that become living canvases for marine life.
These sculptures aren’t just art—they’re the foundation for coral growth and vibrant ecosystems. By applying a gentle, solar-powered electrical current to the metal artwork, minerals naturally build up on the surface, allowing corals and marine organisms to flourish. Over time, these sculptures transform into thriving reefs, teeming with life and beauty.
BiorockS is about more than just restoring reefs—it’s about inspiring people to see the ocean in a new way. Our underwater galleries connect art, science, and nature, showing how creativity can help heal the planet.

Our Mission
Multiple functions
Biodiversity
All of us humans + over 25% of alle marine life is dependent on the corals. The fish seeking for shelter to give birth, grow or for food and us humans need it more than we think for oxygen (carbon offset), coastal protection and of course as a source for food. The sculptures can be placed where normally coral won’t grow because of sandy bottoms or rocky shifting surfaces giving an area a perfect habitat for new biodiversity to come and thrive.
Coastal protection
Preventing coastal erosion in a natural way like normal reefs would do. This is way more cost effective than building machine based sand dunes or walls that will deteriorate over time, since water is likely to dig under the wall forcing it collapse. A biorock structure in the shore line also functions as a barrier that absorbs most impact of the waves like all natural reefs do.
Eco tourism
Tourism is a billion dollar industry and our most beautiful locations of this blue planet are quite often dependent on it. But tourism is mostly consumerism based and transportation such as cruizeliners / airplanes pollute as well on top of the waste tourist create. Eco tourism is on demand and expected to grow another 17% this year. Therefore we combine these two elements making it a win/ win, ying/ yan Feng Shui situation.

Ronald Duikersloot
As an artist and entrepreneur, my work has long explored the disruptive aspects of our economy, using post-apocalyptic sculptures to make bold statements about revolution, environmental awareness, and the importance of circular design and cradle-to-cradle materials. I’ve crafted hydraulic and pyro installations for events like Burning Man, and created bespoke art pieces for interior designers.
In recent years, my focus has shifted towards the positive, constructive potential of humanity—what I like to call “Art That Matters.” This journey led me to the Caribbean, where I adopted the groundbreaking Biorock technology. Working closely with Dr. Thomas J. Goreau, the pioneering mind behind this electrified reef-building technique, I founded Project BioRocks.
Here, we’re rejuvenating coral reefs with underwater sculptures that foster new coral growth while integrating with the billion-dollar tourism industry. Our goal is to drive a shift towards eco-tourism, proving that art, science, and sustainability can come together to create a lasting impact on both our environment and economy.

Ocean conservation is vital for preserving life on Earth. However, our oceans face numerous threats, such as overfishing, pollution, and climate change. The increasing awareness of issues such as coral bleaching and plastic pollution has led to a growing desire to protect our oceans. As a Biorocks Marine Conservation Ambassador, my surname “Walvisch” (meaning “Whale” in English) aligns with my purpose & passion for wildlife conservation. I am honored to work with Ronald Duikersloot, the founder of Biorocks, on our first project in Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
I’m responsible for brand activation, marketing and making connections with those who want to join our amazing project. Do you feel the call? Please contact me:
CHANGE - ILANAArvind Rambhadjan
As an St Maarten island native, I’ve spent the last thirty years in the Netherlands, first studying, then building a family and a career in finance. Starting firstly in a highly valued start-up during the height of the dot.com bubble, I continued on in mainly governmental and educational sectors as business controller. Travelling back to St Maarten on vacation almost every year, I have seen the seas surrounding our island deteriorate through pollution and mass tourism and am thrilled to be a part of an initiative that aims to turn the tide and impact the island in a positive way.
I’m responsible for financial affairs. Feel free to contact me on any such matters:
